The Senior Associate Director, Leadership Giving, Peer-to-Peer Fundraising will lead the institution’s signature peer-to-peer fundraising event, MD Anderson’s Boot Walk to End Cancer®, to ensure success in revenue generation and program execution through brand awareness, engagement and affinity by working with the larger Peer-to-Peer fundraising team across the institution, with agency partners, and a volunteer committee. The Boot Walk to End Cancer unites some of MD Anderson’s most committed supporters through a one-of-a-kind experience. The Senior Associate Director will work with the Director, Leadership Giving, Peer-to-Peer Fundraising to establish strategy and direction for program expansion. This position reports to the Director of Peer-to Peer-Fundraising. Available to work extended and flexible hours including weekends and occasional travel.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented “people person” with strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and a passion for mission-focused event fundraising. In this role, the candidate will need to work quickly and efficiently, be results oriented, have strong time management skills and work enthusiastically in varying environments with fundraisers, donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with and managing different vendors and volunteers for varying events, including experience with event coordination. Due to the level of events, this candidate will need to be local to the Houston Metro area, or be willing to move to the Houston Metro area to be available. Additionally, some background in Communications would also be beneficial for this role.

KEY FUNCTIONS

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT:

  • Serves as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for Boot Walk event participants, team captains, donors, patients, committee volunteers, logistical agency partners and MD Anderson staff.
  • Leads team captain meetings, recruitment meetings, fundraising cultivation educational events (Walk Wednesday Webinars) and fundraising recognition activities for top fundraisers, sponsors and donors. Qualified candidates should be comfortable with public speaking.
  • Conducts year-round cultivation, engagement, retention, and stewardship of peer-to-peer fundraising participants, volunteers and corporate supporters to drive recruitment, retention, and fundraising to meet revenue goals.
  • Creates tools, infrastructure and resources to support revenue generation through the Boot Walk and peer-to-peer programs.
  • Identifies and cultivates peer-to-peer fundraisers to achieve fundraising goals by recruiting team captains who can attract participation from their network, identifying individuals with the capacity to be successful fundraisers, and coaching participants to be successful fundraisers.
  • Collaborate with Creative Communications to develop print and digital assets for fundraising recruitment, fundraising collateral, participant retention, stewardship, and event day.
  • Identifies participant fundraisers with relevant and interesting stories to promote the fundraising program, routes potential story options to stakeholders for consideration and oversees the use of story to contribute to program promotion, and secures proper waivers
  • Supervises the recruitment, vetting, and training of employee ambassadors to execute recruitment drives.
  • Supervises the recruitment of and work done by artists for boot awards given to top fundraisers.
  • Supports sponsorship solicitation, execution and stewardship.
  • Contributes to the retention and stewardship of Peer-to-Peer participants, regardless of program participation, to further engagement with MD Anderson’s portfolio of Peer-to-Peer programs
  • Develops, maintains and utilizes peer-to-peer fundraising industry best practices to enhance the philanthropic opportunities.

STRATEGY/TRACKING/REPORTING:

  • Leads implementation of the Peer-to-Peer strategic plan for the Boot Walk to End Cancer fundraising program initiatives supporting in-person and global “virtual” event participation.
  • Assists in the future expansion of the Peer-to-Peer program, including events and online programs.
  • Tracks and analyzes program KPIs on an ongoing basis to make informed decisions about next steps and success measurements for maximum impact.
  • Provides regular metric reports to key stakeholders and leadership.
  • Develops, drives, manages and measures communication strategies to meet goals.
  • Contributes to the qualification metrics for Peer-to-Peer fundraisers, donors and supporters for donor mapping and impact of Peer-to-Peer program participation and engagement.

CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP:

  • Leads the project management efforts required to effectively communicate to stakeholders about Boot Walk deliverables including program budget, regular updates on program execution, performance, and impact reporting cross-divisionally.
  • Leads Boot Walk website launch, content management and updates.
  • Recruits and manages the Boot Walk Leadership Committee
  • Manages logistical agency partner for event day execution
  • Oversees recruitment and management of event day volunteers.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision; effectively and efficiently organizes and prioritizes workload to meet constantly changing demands and policy adherence.
  • Collaborates with team members, PR agency partners, Institutional Affairs division colleagues, media and other key stakeholders.
  • Directly hires, trains, supervises and evaluates performance
  • Conducts training and supervising of interns
  • Supports the ongoing activities of the Peer-to-Peer fundraising team.
  • Has command of AP Style and MD Anderson style, with excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ensures patient information protection in communications, such as in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Ensures brand compliance of all written and visual collateral.
